Adipose-derived vs bone marrow stem cells is a comparison of source tissue rather than of two unrelated treatments. Both yield mesenchymal cells, but they are collected differently. Fat is taken through a small procedure under local anesthesia, while bone marrow is drawn from the pelvis, which involves a different experience for the patient.

The tissues also differ in what they yield. Fat generally produces cells in greater quantity relative to the volume collected, which is one reason private clinics use it frequently. Bone marrow has a longer history in certain clinical settings. Neither of these facts settles which is preferable for any particular condition, and clinics may reasonably choose either.

When a clinic offers one source only, ask why that choice was made and what it means for your case. Ask what the collection procedure involves and what recovery follows. Comparing the two on the basis of how the cells are obtained and handled is more informative than treating one source as inherently superior to the other.
