What to Prepare Before Traveling for Treatment

Patient Guide

What to prepare before traveling for treatment falls into two groups: medical documentation and practical arrangements. On the medical side, gather a summary of your condition, a current medication list including doses, recent test results, and any relevant imaging. Ask the clinic which of these should be translated and in what format they should be sent.

Practical preparation deserves equal attention. Confirm the number of visits, the interval between them, and the total time you need to remain in Japan. Book accommodation with some flexibility, since processing timelines can shift. Ask whether any activity restrictions apply after each stage, as these affect what you can reasonably plan around the appointments.

Before leaving, establish how follow-up will work. Ask who to contact with questions once you are home, in which language, and how quickly a reply is expected. Ask what documentation you will be given to take with you and whether your own physician can receive it directly. Arranging this in advance is considerably easier than afterward.
